Saturday = A busy day in the barbershop

* * *

Today =’s Saturday which =”s the busiest day in the shop which means longer than normal wait times which also means do the shop a favour and leave the wives, girlfriends, kiddies, and your 10 buddies that AREN’T getting a haircut at home. Waiting chairs are valuable in our little shop and paying / waiting customers should be the only ass’s in them..

SHOP CLOSED SUNDAY 6-2-13

Please note the shop will be CLOSED on Sunday 6-2-13….

* * *

it’s YOUR hair, SPEAK UP !

* * *

We are barbers, not miracle workers people ! Guy comes in yesterday with a outgrown “Undercut” hairstyle (Google it if you aren’t sure what the kids are wearing today). Says he wants a regular haircut, the barber kindly tells him that it’s going to be hard as their is little to no hair on the sides of his head to work with. After 30 minutes cutting hair off here and there and going back and forth with the mirror trying to get a sense of what the customer is ACTUALLY wanting he literally says “I’m not opposed to just doing a buzz all over” ! So with absolutely no direction from the customer the barber did the best he could, and what does he and the shop get, but A two star review on good ol’ YELP ! Click the link, read what “Peter M” had to say, and please remember we can only do what your hair and your description will allow. It’s YOUR hair, YOU have to decide what the barber does with it. If you aren’t good at describing what ya like, bring in a picture —>

Half Fast Chicago

* * *

Half Fast Chicago was established in the fall of 2007. The three founding members wanted to form a solid/tight knit group of friends who are more interested in putting miles on their rides rather than just talking about them while they sit in the garage. It doesn’t matter what you choose to ride, as long as you ride it ! If your looking to hang with some great people, learn alittle, wrench alittle, have a few cocktails, and actually put some miles on your ride then these are your guys.

Do the shop a favor, and if you haven’t already please take two minutes, click on the link below, and give the shop whatever you feel is a actual review. Yes we have a ton of positive / 5-star reviews already, but one more from a shop customer can’t hurt show others “the way” from the quick cuts and salons of the city.

Effective 4/1/13

* * *

Saturday 3/30/13

* * *

The day before a holiday is always a busy one. Three barbers and 9 waiting chairs means it doesn’t take allot to make the shop packed. Today is going to be one of those days. So, if you are in need of a cut/shave before the Easter holiday please bring your patience, maybe a book to read, some good music on your phone, etc.

* * *

Easter 2013

* * *

The shop will be open 9-6 on Friday 3/29, 9-5 on Saturday 3/30, and CLOSED on Sunday 3/31. Going to be a busy to days here in the shop so do yourself and your barber a favor and bring your patience, leave the kids at home, and tell your friends who aren’t getting a haircut you will meetup with them later. The shop has three barbers and 8 waiting chairs so it doesn’t take allot to get packed.

* * *

Respect Tradition…

* * *

Pictured above is Joe Sr’s father Victor. Victor put food on his family’s table as well as supported and funded the move to American from Italy by being a barber. Joe Sr (his son) has done the same for his family, as is now his son Joe Jr. Allot of people take the trade of barbering as not being a “serious” profession, as something to be looked down upon, or something that is “easy” of anyone can do. What I usually say to the above is go grab a clipper or a pair of shears and go try it ! Not as easy as a trained barber makes it look. Do yourself a favor and tell your buddy who goes to a salon or a $5 quick cut place to respect himself alittle more, get a good haircut from a licensed barber, and respect and support a tradition that is the worlds oldest legal profession.

* * *

Week of Easter 2013

* * *

The shop will be open regular hours this week, minus being CLOSED Sunday 3/31/13 for the Easter holiday…

* * *

Blue…

* * *
Since we started customizing clippers their have been allot of people coming up with their “version” of a custom clipper. Ours our powdercoated, the others use reg. off the shelf at home depot paint. Ours start off as a brand new production unit from Andis, the others are factory 2nd’s and used clippers they buy on ebay. Our finishes are 10x harder than automotive grade paint, the others use everything from spraypaint to exterior house paint (i have seen it – believe me). Bottom line is you get what you pay for in life. If you want a clipper that stands out from the rest, has the best/brightest/hardest/most chemical resistant finish available you have come to the right place. Click the link below for a full description of what sets our clippers and the process that makes them happen, be informed, and stop throwing your hard earned money away on internet junk …

BUNNY

* * *

Easter is right around the corner, so get in the shop for your Easter clean-up NOW and avoid super long wait times. REMEMBER: We only have 3 barbers and 8 waiting chairs and never rush a client out the door. Sold out…

* * *

Due to limited supplies and popular demand the shop is currently sold out of the new JS Sloane Lightweight pomade. But don’t fret Chicago, as a large order was placed today and should be here no later then next week. JS Sloane’s Lightweight pomade has the same great smell/look/feel as their Heavyweight, yet carries a lighter/more manageable hold.

* * *

Clean…

SHOP25* * *

A clean shop is a healthy shop. Every Monday (the one day the shop is closed) we clean the entire shop from top to bottom. From the floors to the chairs to the backbars to the tools. We do this each and every Monday to prepare for the busy week, and have been doing this practice since 1968…

* * *

Sunday 3/24/13 = The Great Chicago Beard Off

* * *

All event patrons will gather at the shop on Sunday 3/24/13 to have each of their faces cleaned off of any and all facial hair by way of a hot lather straight razor shave, then a picture will be taken of the new clean face, and a entry fee of $20 to gain access into the contest will b paid. Each contestant will then have to report back to the barbershop the last Sunday of each month for one year for any sort of trimming, shaping, etc on their growing facial hair, as well as to have another official headshot taken and another $20 to go into the “kitty” so to speak. If a month is missed that said contestant will be eliminated from the competition.

At the end of the year/contest, the barbershop will host a event in which the crowd will have the chance to vote for which beard/facial hair creation they think is the best. The winner will get cash and prizes (amount and what still yet to be determined) and whatever else we come up with to celebrate this monumental achievement.

Anyone who thinks they (and their beard) have what it takes to be the 1st annual beard champ shoot me an email directly at JoesBarberShop1@aol.com and we can get ya signed up or be at the shop on Sunday 3/24/13 . PhASE 2 custom powdercoated clippers…

* * *

The shop is proud to announce that our PhASE2 line of powdercoated clippers is due out sometime in early Spring 2013 ! New colors, new finishes, same rock hard chemical resistant long lasting finish. Remember folks, spray paint or even automotive paint is NOT the same as powdercoating. Others try and offer a “custom clipper” for less than ours, but that’s exactly what it is (a cheaper clipper) that wont last.  Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available…

* * *

The word “Barber” used to stand for something. Professional/Traditional/Licensed barbering is not available for $5 at the Un-licensed shop on the corner, or even $100 @ the new/hip place that just opened up in the city. For generations real licensed barbers have bought houses, raised children, purchased new cars, and made a honest living making their customers look their best at reasonable prices. The “chop shop” chains like SportsClips, Floyds, Hair Curttery, and the best of all “Male Salons” try to play the role of a traditional barber, while at the same time take away customers and $$ from the real deal shops that have been around for generations. Share this with your buddies who support these soul-less “Chop Shops”, and give them a slap upside the head next time ya see them. Support local barbershops..

Your hair not doing what ya want it too ?

Your 1st problem is that it might not be cut right. Having the hair cut to the way you actually wear it is the #1 issue guys have with their hair. If you wear your hair in say a traditional pompadour like style, then it should be cut by the barber for that style. The more the cut itself is catered to the style, the easier it will be for the customer to style his own hair on a daily basis. Makes sense right ?

 2nd Issue we come in the shop is that people aren’t using the correct product for their desired style. Johnny Cash and Elvis’s hair wasn’t natural people ! They had TONS of grease in their hair to get those trademark styles. So do yourself a favor and get some water based pomade, don’t be afraid to glob it in, and pickup yourself a nice simple comb. The days of “combing” your hair with your fingers were over the day you got out of college. Both Layrite and Suavecito brand pomade are both available in the shop and will get you looking your dapper best while still washing out clean in the shower…
